Internet marketing, online marketing or web marketing is the practice of generating sales and/or leads from your target market while they are browsing the internet.
Originally "Internet marketing" meant trying to get your website indexed by Google (and other search engines like Bing and Yahoo!) in such a way that when a person from your target market types a “keyword phrase” into the search box, your web site is one of the first that pops up on the search results page.

The big trend in Internet marketing today is using social networking sites like Facebook, Pinterest & Instagram. Due to the "sharing" functionality of social sites, well presented information about your web site has the potential to go “viral” and generate “virtual word of mouth” mentions. For social sites, it is demographic, rather than keyword targeting, which allows advertisers to target their audiences most efficiently.
